We'll help you fine tune your skills as a cruising couple at PassageMaker University wherever TrawlerFest is held. Then come see us at Trawler Fest at our booth and sign up for one of our presentations. We can help you learn more about the trawler life aboard our boat in Florida or your boat anywhere!

This couples-oriented two-day seminar happens on the waterways of America! We offer tricks and tips on boat handling with an emphasis on team work. The husband and wife team of Captains Chris and Alyse Caldwell will teach you how to formulate a plan and effectively communicate together while cruising.  Each couple is given the opportunity to be both the ‘captain’ and ‘first mate" before switching roles. Training aboard includes:

Communicating, Vessel Systems Review, Docking, Anchor Techniques, Basic Maintenance, Navigation and Trip Planning. In addition to boat handling, these are all important experiences to master as a couple. Before starting the engines, we cover all lifestyle systems that make boating comfortable in a trawler. Staterooms, a modern galley and where to stow everything are some of the many features to learn about. The pilot house and flybridge allow us to review the essentials of navigation come rain or shine. RADAR and electronic GPS chart plotting is ongoing as we cruise the waterway. We take the mystery out of below deck systems. Docking is made easy both on fixed and floating docks. We share what works in the real world...and sometimes what doesn't.

The Blue Krewe inspect the engine room, checking all fluid levels. Everything looks good and we are ready to leave the dock aboard the Krogen Express 52.
Hey Cap! Where are we heading? Maureen takes the helm and docks this classic Krogen Express 52 with ease...and a little practice.
While Ben is at the wheel, David and John pay close attention for when it's their turn to anchor the boat.
Captain Alyse and the Blue Krewe are prepared to anchor when we find the perfect spot off the ICW. We review deployment procedures and hand signals to ease communications on a windy day.
Here's the Gold Krewe taking an engine room tour. Lots of head room...uh-oh...where's John?
Maureen and Becky decide who's next to dock. I'll flip you for it!
A little afternoon break is quite comfortable sitting in the saloon. Next we plan a cruise up to Norfolk from Fort Lauderdale. Everyone has a turn using paper charts, then we tackle the GPS chart plotter once we get underway.
Jocelyne and Luc are ready to start the great loop aboard their new trawler. Fair winds!
Chris & Alyse are ready to second line with Sean & Louise! Happy Mardi Gras at Trawler Fest 2010.
Here's the Krewe of PassageMaker Magazine sporting some Carnival Colors at the First Night's Dinner at Trawler Fest in Fort Lauderdale.
